Day 10 – Last day to Abisko, FINISH !

Kungsleden 1983 Day 10 – FINISH
Abiskojaure to Abisko fjallstation

It is incredible, we start on our last hike, to Abisko. The weather is good, but rain is expected. We walk the funny bridge across the Abiskojokka river, swaying under our steps with heavy backpack and start a quiet walk North. Along the track beautiful yellow Trollius flowers. We take a break along the river, quickly dressing in our “mosquitoe-gear” (raincoat).
On the last stretch we come across some local turfhuts, the supply version stands on poles to keep out the local wildlife, We get the famous view of Lapporten, the iconic landmark of this park.

And there we are, we arrive at the trailhead in Abisko, Kungsleden is behind us. A very emotional moment, what an adventure it has been, we are simply speechless and hug each other.

We pitch our tent at the campingsite, some open spaces in the forest. Dinner at the fjallstuga, French fries with Swedish meatballs, one of the best meals we had in a while. A fresh shower and a good shave, wow. We stayed in Abisko a few days and did some day hikes, before catching the train to Kiruna, back to civilization, proper food, normal days, study.

But seriously, an adventure like this changes your life. And it changes your relation, either you split after a few days and never want to see each other again, or like us you stay forever for the rest of your life. Fighting through horrible weather, ice-cold rivers, mudtracks, mosquitoe swarms. Eating food-like substances or worse, knackebrod, sleeping on a thin mat on rocky ground. All that creates a bond that nothing can break.

Thanks for watching!
