Kungsleden 1983 Day 9
Radunjarga to Abiskojaure
We wake up in our mosquitoe-proof bunker. A wonderful morning, the lake is like glass. While the first swarms arrive we quickly close the outer tent, prepare tea and start snacking on our knackebrod with fishpaste again, we will never eat this again, trust me.
We pack the tent and are on our way.
Another easy hike, about 15km to go and it goes fast. Nice open tundra landscape, good weather. The Kieronbacken , a 30m steep slope, is not tough. Most hikers go North-South and have to climb it, we go the other way. We walk into the treeline, drink water at a stream and pluck berries. Just before the final stretch to Abiskojaure we enter the Abisko National Park. Today we don’t camp, we stay in the STF hut at the lake, comfort !!
Water supply is the lake, you just go to the jetty and fill a bucket.
Diner is spectacular, we bought some supplies at Alesjaure and one green packet lost its label, no idea what it is. We pour the content in a pan and add hot water. Interesting, we still have no idea what it is, even after eating it. But it is food (sort of) and the lake water is pure.
We spend the rest of the evening sitting at the table, legs stretched on another chair, and look after our mosquitoe bites. Anti-itch crème is an absolute necessity here. Only 15 km to go tomorrow, the last leg of our insane adventure !
